What Are Shot Lists For?

The purpose of a shot list is to document the list of shots to be filmed during the production of a film.

Each shot needs to receive a number, starting with number 1. They can’t have the same number or they will be confusing for the cameraman. Further, the shots are not in order of filming, during the shooting schedule process the shots will be arranged in order.

It is important to take into consideration the following:

  • Character in the shot
  • Type of shot
  • Camera movement
  • Important actions
  • Important objects

Having the storyboard done makes the shot list process easier since it allows the director and cinematographer to visualize the shot and agree on the camera movement as well.
